Carter Cellars Fortuna Block Cabernet Sauvignon 1999
Tasting Notes
The ancient red volcanic soils from the adjoining Vaca Range created a sloping bench upon which Fortuna Vineyard sits. Now known as the Oakville AVA, (Silverado Trail Side) our 1999 vintage exhibits the characteristic spicy fruit flavors that is the stylemark of the terroir. This wine combines ripe, intense, firmly tannic Cabernet fruit with a sense of elegance and finesse. Its deeply rich color is infused with notes of currant, anise, cedar and pencil lead with subtle French oak overtones and earthiness. Like any fine wine, it only get better with age.
"A big, ripe, expressive style. Dark, rich and layered, with a mix of loamy currant, mocha, soy, mushroom and herb, gaining a nice minerality on the finish, which is long, focused and persistent."
