Tasting Notes
The 2010 vintage was a perfect growing season to create this classically styled Cabernet Sauvignon from a block of old vine clone 4. The dark crimson and visually viscous nature of this wine forecasts what is to come. Dark red fruits are intermingled with roasted hazelnuts, violets and distinct crushed rock minerality on the nose. The mid palate is where this wine trumps most. Red fruits dominate up front, followed by blue fruits that frame a full bodied yet plush texture. The focused yet plush finish takes over accenting them with cocoa powder and cassis notes. The overall balance and natural acidity within this wine will allow it to age effortlessly.
Last year this To Kalon became the buzz of Napa Valley, becoming a crowd favorite at many a tasting party.

Waves of sumptuous dark fruit, mocha, chocolate, sweet spices and violets all flow from the glass as this jammy, rich wine continues to open up in the glass. The 2010 shows off its dazzling richness and sheer concentration with tons of boldness. A total pleasure bomb, the 2010 is delicious today but it will be better in another few years. The Carter wines have proven to age well, and I have no doubt that will be the case here as well. "

The History of the To Kalon Vineyard
The Beckstoffer portion of the historic original To Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville AVA was purchased from Beaulieu Vineyard in 1993. Beaulieu had purchased the property from the Crabb estate in 1940 and called it their Beaulieu Vineyard No. 4. Napa Pioneer Hamilton Crabb first planted the vineyard in 1868 and it has produced some of the Napa Valley's best red grapes ever since. Replanted after phylloxera by Beckstoffer from 1994 to 1997 to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with modern trellising and closer vine spacing, the vineyard produces several luxury award winning vineyard designated wines. These vineyard designated Cabernet Sauvignon wines include Schrader Cellars, Paul Hobbs, Provenance, Realm and of course, Carter Cellars.
